You read that right. We are back at our Site Unseen Project to tackle more spaces for our amazing clients! We previously completed a kitchen refresh project for them soon after they first moved into their new-to-them home. When it came time to tackle updating their bathrooms they chose the Cori Ashlyn Design team to transform those as well! We began with the secondary bathrooms (more on those later!) and then made our way into the owner's suite where they were ready for a complete overhaul!
The existing owner's suite bathroom featured a lackluster layout and uninspiring finishes that felt tired and dated. Only part of the ceiling was vaulted near the rear of the space making it seem awkwardly divided rather than a great architectural feature. The jetted tub was underutilized and the placement felt cramped shoved in between the double vanity and cave-like shower. We were ready to start over!
Our clients agreed that removing the barely used jetted tub would help us make the most out of the limited footprint we were working in. This would enable us to relocate the shower to a more prominent spot and make room for them to spread out since we would remove the double vanity in favor of separate his and hers vanities. We utilized a variety of materials from natural tumbled stone to a linear accent wall that we layered in to give the visual interest we were after. The results gave our clients the collected style they craved!
Custom vanities now flank each side of the new shower and provide the additional storage that was lacking before. The floating vanity concept visually expands the space since it allows your eye to travel around the room freely. But let's rest our eyes for a moment on the star of this space.... the shower!
Relocating the shower to the previous jetted tub's spot proved to be the perfect swap! The shower is now flooded with natural light. Its new location within the vaulted ceiling portion of the bathroom allowed us to carry the tile further up, elongating your line of site. The feature wall we installed has everyone scratching their heads... It's a porcelain tile! This teak-inspired material really warmed up the space and provided an unexpected element against the rest of the tumbled finishes. We tucked a quartz-covered bench under the window and installed a hidden niche in the new knee wall to keep bottles out of sight allowing the tile work to really stand out.
Speaking of stand outs... check out that new ceiling treatment! We made sense out of the vaulted ceiling's awkward placement and embraced it by adding decorative paneling and beams to give this architectural detail the attention it deserved!
Sleek, contemporary plumbing fixtures done in a polished nickel and matte black light fixtures and cabinet hardware contrast nicely against the natural, honed finishes in the shower and provide a much more polished and elevated look. We tied in the natural elements into the water closet with the addition of a natural woven wood shade for privacy.
